SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Nasia Therapontos Ph.D


Dr. Nasia Therapontos was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. She is a researcher, composer, and educator in the field of Music Technology Innovation and Education. She holds a PhD degree from De Montfort University, supervised by Prof. Leigh Landy, with a scholarship from the A.G. Leventis Foundation. Her research is focused on the creative use of music technology and its integration in the National Music Curriculum program.

She works as a teacher in public schools of Cyprus and as an external research collaborator and lecturer with the Music Department of European University Cyprus and the Music, Technology and Innovation Resource Centre at De Montfort University. She participates in scientific conferences, presenting her research in journals, and offering seminars on the use of music technology in education. Her research is based on the creative use of technology as a means of expression in composition, education and improvisation.

She has a rich compositional background, from classical music to experimental electroacoustic compositions and sound installations. Her most recent music collaboration was with composer Maria Gouvali, for the composition "ReCorDar" for 6 hands on piano and electroacoustic composition, which was on a European tour with the Pythia Trio, funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Greece (2022-2023). Locally, her last interactive composition was titled "Clarion Call" for clarinetist George Georgiou, dancer, and image, which premiered at the MusEdX conference, specifically composed for the opening of the event, organized by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, Cyprus (2023).
